I don’t always love surprises but I will take pleasant surprises.
I’m about to do some traveling and I’ve been shaking down different components of my Schoeps double-ortf rig. I’ve been trying to find ways to set it up and break it down faster than an old man with one of the canes that fold into a seat. I’m getting there.
The other day I set up the rig on the back deck and went for a walk. Over the course of the next 30 minutes all sorts of stuff went down. There is a NJT transit train horn that kicks things off, some birdlife and even some construction going on two streets away.
The construction has a strange tonal quality to it that I can’t quite put my finger on it. There is something quite beautiful and layered about it. It was truly a happy accident.
Recording Geek Note: Rig consists of Schoeps CMC5′s with MK4 capsules setup for double ORTF. It was tracked with a Cooper CS 104 feeding a Sound Devices 744T
