Road Crew

I work from home. Aside for forcing myself to shower and put on pants, there are few obstacles to productivity. Road crews are one of those obstacles when you are trying to mix a broadcast project. The other day I was mixing away when I started to hear the low drone and the metallic bangs of someone other than me being productive.

I don’t know what it is about my little suburban neighborhood, but the reflections of road construction noise off our little 1940 homes does something for my cranky soul. I’m always initially annoyed by the disruption, but once I get over that I have to stop, take a pause and listen to what is actually going on. There is something beautifully diffuse about these sounds.

Recording Geek Note: Rig consists of Schoeps CMC5′s setup for MS, with the MK4 as the mid. It was also tracked to a Sony PCM-M10 with a Sound Devices MP-2 as a front end.
