I have never been much of a Guns ‘n Roses fan, but "Cold November Rain" seemed like an appropriate title for this post as it was both cold and raining. I wanted to get the rig outside because it was Thanksgiving Day and I knew traffic would be at a minimum.
The rig is out on a stone patio near the back of my house during light rain. One of the early features of this recording is a distant New Jersey Transit train horn.
Later in the day the rain picks up:
I love the car bys on the wet roads. I was very surprised by the imaging because the road is on the opposite side of the house, so the car by are reflecting off trees in my backyard. They sound incredibly present, as if they were in front of the mics and not behind them separated by a house.
Recording Geek Note: Rig consists of Schoeps CMC1′s with MK4 capsules set up for double ORTF. It was tracked with a Cooper CS 104 feeding a Sound Devices 744T
