It’s been a little while since I have taken my hydrophones out on the town, so when the weather was looking good last Sunday, I took my bike and my gear out for a ride to Red Hook, Brooklyn. If you listen closely (or not so closely), you can hear a fair bit of boat traffic in the East River. There are small motor boats and some big tankers roaming around, so it is only in a select few moments when you can actually hear the water sloshing around. This week’s recording clocks in around 30 minutes so take your time and take in the soothing underwater sounds of the urban river that some call “The East River.” It’s no Gitche Gumee, but it’s still pretty damn cool.
Recording Geek Note: Rig consists of 2 Dolphin Ear Pro hydrophones and it was all tracked to a Sound Devices 744T at 24/96, while trying not to get wet.

Mountain Lake Biological Station

Wow – that was so not what I expected. I had some minimal ambient on in the background and with this on my headphones, it was very evocative of Alan Lamb. But, well, underwater. 😉 Fascinating ambience, and very surprising what it all sounded like. Really nice capture, Michael.
